Anyone that has been to the Ice knows how important the Trinket Trade is. On the Ice, everyone wears the same cloths, live in rooms that all look alike, eat in the same dinning room off of the same plates. You can only take 75lbs of personal goods with you and that includes about 40lbs of cold weather gear. People do mail personal stuff to themselves just before they leave home or have someone send it to them.
Each station has a Station Store where you can buy "stuff". Primarily, you could buy beer, film and choose from a few souvenir T-shirts. Some people would make up their own souvenirs, take or mail them to themselves and trade them for other stuff.
This is the beginning of an Antarctic Souvenir Museum. I welcome contributions. Almost every souvenir comes with a story, if youve been on the Ice, you know what I mean. Please send scanned images, or pictures of your souvenirs and include a story. Ill add it to the Museum.
