Palmer Station is the most beautiful place I've seen on this earth.

Palmer Station is more then just the buildings and the point of land that it's built on.  It's a whole neighborhood. The Glacier in the back yard, the bay on both sides of the station, the surrounding islands, the sky, the icebergs, the sounds and smells of the rookeries, the silence, the wind!

SitReps
and
Palmer Station Bi-Weekly Free Press and Watch List
!

The Antarctic stations send a weekly situation report back to Washington. I kept copies of these SitReps. They tell the story of our year. John was a creative writer. Everyone looked forward to the SitReps he produced. I remember being in the Orange Ca. offices of Holms and Narver, before we left for the Ice. There was talk about the tone and content of the SitReps. Everyone felt they had been to dry, to technical. However, there was some concern about a too liberal writing style. These SitReps become part of the official record and are archived as part of the Antarctic Treaty.

The incredible, PSBWFPWL!
It all started innocently, a simple schedule for the night watch. It soon became our community bulletin board. Once again, John Konecki demonstrated his wit and sense of humor, and there were contributions from everyone. I can't tell you how much we anticipated the next publication of the PSBWFPWL.
